Wayne Sleeth

Back
Influenced in part by the light of compatriot Turner’s palette and the late compositions of Mark Rothko, Sleeth’s canvases evoke places and spaces that are both ambiguous and precise. Sourced from or reminiscent of Cornwall, the Mediterranean, the North Sea or the Lorraine countryside, his canvases - regardless of their format - are without dimension. They are a pursuit of the ’essential’, sensations of light and colour.
” I paint neither land- nor sea-scapes, just ’scapes’ ; anagrams of ’spaces’ which local palettes of colour, light and texture inhabit, make their own, or escape”.
